Stock market investing is high risk and costly activity.
It is not for impulsive people or anyone with a weak
stomach.
If you don't have the time and the motivation to weigh the
odds carefully and spend a lot of time studying the
market, you are better off putting your money in mutual
funds, savings accounts, or under the mattress.
If you have limited funds to invest, your trades are
limited by the price of the stock and the broker's fee.
This may tempt you into trying a "BUY and HOLD" strategy
that is ALWAYS fatal. You need sufficient funds to offset
your losses by buying when the market turns down, SUDDENLY
AND WITHOUT WARNING! If you don't have that kind of money,
don't even think of investing in the market. You WILL
lose your shirt! Mutual fund managers have that kind of
money to play with, and they screw up, too. Just look at
the Mutual Fund section of your financial news and note
the minus signs when the market is down.
A special pitfall in online trading through the Internet
is the possibility of your own clerical errors. If you
enter a quantity as 1000 shares when you actually want 100
shares, for example.
