Filling Sinkhole Pictures

Sinkhole Panorama 9/2/2012. Topsoil removed. First fill clay compacted. Later, after this picture was taken, hundreds of truckloads of fill clay added and compacted in flagrant defiance of federal, state, and local laws, which demonstrates the serious intent to fill the 18,000 square foot basin-shaped sinkhole without an explicit signed permit. This sinkhole had direct connection to the karst below, because a complete fill with storm water would disappear within 24 hours.

This panorama is very large (22.4 megabytes) because it was constructed with computer software from multiple camera exposures. Even with DSL it will take a couple of minutes to download, but it is well worth the wait. At first you will see the light blue sky moving down the page as the picture loads. Depending on the zoom level, the picture may first overfill the screen page. After it is fully-loaded, a mouse click on any area will zoom in or out.

Heavier Rain Will Cause Flash Flood
And Where Will That Water Go?

The Shenandoah County, VA, GIS Map is very difficult to navigate down to the street level, but after many strong language words the topgraphic lines clearly indicate that in the event of a big hurricane or other major storm the street below will become an instant disaster scene. That terrible river flood will certainly kill some old people and innocent children in their sleep and will destroy private homes for a total loss of $2,000,000 or more. Part of that water runoff risk is the result of removing apple trees and filling another sinkhole on the South side about 10 years ago. With the filling of the current sinkhole, that water will have no place to go except down the street.

(The exact street location is not shown - the Internet is public.)
